What type of rod is best for trout fishing?
I see many fishermen fishing with too short and flimsy of a rod for trout. Trout have a hard upper mouth and that is where a Trout Magnet is going to hook them 99% of the time.
A short flimsy rod makes it difficult to get the hook deep enough to keep the trout on. If you set the hook and have a lot of fish on for just a couple of seconds this could be your problem.
We like a light rod but the backbone of the rod is up closer the tip of the rod. The tip should not be flimsy but light and stiff. This allows you to set the hook and keep it in them. The rod should be 6’ long or longer unless the cover does not allow it. The long rod allows you to control your lure or drift lures more naturally than a shorter rod.
The longer rod also allows you to fight bigger fish on lighter line too. You will never see a Leland’s Lures pro staffer using a shorter rod than 6’. In fact, we use our 9’ rods most of the time like our Signature Series featured above. Click here for more information on this rod.
