S.O.S. CONTESTS
2 LB S.O.S. Winner - James Browne
Nantahala
I was using S.O.S. 2lb trout line, a yellow trout magnet and an E-Z float. I was fishing in a familiar hole at Montauk State Park that I have caught good sized trout before that had tree limbs that over hanged the river and a fallen log in front a a deep hole. After releasing a couple trout I caught earlier, I cast the lure in front of the log into the hole. I had a hit but I didn't realize the size of the trout I had until it made a run and leaped out of the water.

A fisherman close by saw the action and couldn't believe the size of the fish. I still had no real clue but knew it was big. After 20 minutes of fighting, the trout finally was tired enough for the fisherman close by to net it for me and get it to the bank.

It ended up being a 7lb, 5oz rainbow. Definitely the biggest catch I had ever had and the line never broke. What did break was the trout magnet after it was landed.

4 LB S.O.S. Winner - Spencer Sale
Ben Behel and I were heading in from a "turkey conservation" excursion (all turkey's were conserved) in the Ozarks and we thought we would fish our way back in towards Searcy. We were going to fish part of the Little Red, but it was generating, therefore too high. Ben said he knew of a place that we could fish for trout when conditions were adversarial.

We proceded to the "unnamed" creek that supposedly did not hold trout. Ben, the seasoned trout fisherman out of the two of us, was fishing the good spot while I was fishing the not-so-favorable spot. He said that he had a couple of nibbles, but nothing landed (he was out of Trout Magnets). I had one Trout Magnet left. A chartreuse with a gold hook. Ben said I should crawl on top of the rocks and fish from there, so I made my way across the current and onto the rocks.

I saw a fish hit something on the top of the water and thought to myself, that was a big fish, not sure what it was but I knew it was big. I tossed the TM around where I had seen the fish and............jiggle jiggle jiggle.....WHAP! It was on. The fish of a lifetime, held on by a little gold hook and 4lb SOS line. She made numerous runs each of which I was praying, "don't break the line, don't break the line". Ben kept giving me instruction on how to land the fish. He could tell I had zero confidence in my ability to not loose it after a great fight so he jumped in and did it for me.

Thank you Ben!! And thank you Leland Lures for the Trout Magnet which was definately on the menu for this beautiful 6lb 22in brown trout!!
